You have a few days of holiday coming up and the vast country beckons you to travel and explore. Bring the kids….. they can enjoy experiencing somewhere new…..great idea? But where do we go?
With a new app to help you, that is an easy task because the Kid Friendly Venues app gives you the perfect choice for your perfect Happy-Day memory.
All kids have special days they will always remember. Mine are rather old ones but let me share what it was like. Just note the mammoth task my parents had to organise them and savour the luxury of having KFV today!
In the 1960s my parents would plan camping trips every summer. Trips were normally spent over a week or two. Our drive started early morning with the station wagon filled to the brim; on the hood was a container holding a large canvas tent to sleep up to nine people. While I come from a family of seven children, we are spread in age over eighteen years; so some of us, depending on our age, saw more than others. I was lucky, right in the middle of them all.
The camping trips were a blast! We would do hiking, fishing, sightseeing, swimming, paddle boating and more. The sightseeing included going into mines, caves, the Grand Canyon, Four Corners, Mount Rushmore, Custard’s Last Stand, Jesse James near Nashville and Wild Bill Hickok in Deadwood-Tennessee, the Continental Divide, Blue Ridge Mountains, Clingman’s Dome, the Royal Gorge, Washington Monument, Smithsonian Library, Lincoln’s Childhood House and more. We traveled through thirty-two states and camped in about twenty-three of them.
As children, what we did not know was each trip was planned to include historical and geographic sites. We were getting an education while having fun! As an adult now I cannot thank my parents enough for giving me the gift of curiosity to explore further. I have now been to most states and historical sites and also many historical sites in Europe. It is still just as much fun now as it was a child!
In my childhood we were exploring Kid Friendly Venues and today it is as much a real treat for any growing child as it was in the 1960s. Whether camping in a tent, camper or motor-home, getting to see the USA landscape of the great outdoors and historical sites is certainly something to consider this summer as we open up the country for more travel and less restrictions following our pandemic lockdowns.
Stay safe and make memories.
