I need your attention. Summer is almost over, and you are running out of time to plan the perfect summer museum visit. I know you may be busy planning a back-to-school shopping day, loaded with coupons and clearance rack visits. Still, you must make time for a trip to the yummiest place in summertime Chicago, The Museum of Ice Cream. This museum teaches the history of ice cream, it is a guaranteed fun time for the kids, and a great time for you too!
I recommend that you plan your visit for a weekday, the weekends are typically busy and tickets sell out quickly. The tickets to this museum cost $36 general admission on the weekdays and $44 general admission on weekends. All children under two enter free. This experience is costly, but, in my opinion, worth it. There is unlimited ice cream here. Need I say more?
I want to mention that this museum is entirely pink. This instantly creates an ambiance as if you have left Chicago and entered an ice cream utopia. Upon arrival, you are instructed to change your name to an ice cream flavor, and then take an L-train to a giant freezer door. Behind that door is an ice cream lab that teaches the scientific process behind the creation of ice cream and delicious flavors. Your child can learn and watch this entire process. Another educational room located in this museum is the history room, that is filled with ice cream artifacts.
After the educational galleries are completed, I highly recommend that you stroll over to the “scoopeasy” to grab more ice cream for your kids and a boozy ice cream milkshake for you. Next, there is the carnival section. Play putt-putt golf, whack a mole, and carnival contests however many times you would like. There is a giant sprinkle pool waiting for you to dive in and carnival-themed ice cream treats too. I dare you to try the hot dog ice cream. This is the perfect place to say your farewell to summer. Find more information about The Ice Cream Museum on the KFV app to check out the three locations in Chicago, New York City and Austin.
