School is back in session around much of the country. Fall is on its way, and schedules are once again packed with activities. Can you say stress? For many busy working moms and their kiddos, the beginning of each fall semester is both exciting and scary. It’s exciting because everyone is back to their normal routines, but it’s scary because routines can mean pressure. What’s a parent to do? You’ve come to the right place! At MomsTribute.com – a top site to find the best blogs for working moms – we are here to help.
Many of us can identify with having a child stressed about school, but don’t forget, "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy". Isn’t that how the saying goes? While we each have our schedules to keep, it is also important to remember that we, and our kids, need fun. This is especially true during stressful times like back-to-school.
Now, keep an open mind as you read the next sentence..... Do you remember roller skates?
My sister asked me this question not too many weeks ago. Roller skates? Sure, I remembered them. My kids owned them. Sometimes—when the moon shone just right, and the wind was blowing from the east—they even put down their electronics long enough to skate around our house.
Her suggestion, though, was something different. What about loading my kids into the car and taking them to an old-fashioned but new-fangled skating rink? The idea held appeal, I had to admit. But would my kids like a skating rink? Hadn’t those gone out of style a long time ago?
The answer to that was a resounding “No!”
In North Alabama we have an event center called Insanity Skate Complex. This fantastic complex has a skating rink, arcade, miniature golf course, laser tag room, batting cages, outdoor skate park, and rock-climbing wall. It’s open year-round, though the hours and attractions offered vary by season.
My sister was proposing that I take my kids to check out Insanity. I apprehensively agreed. For a very reasonable price ($10 per person) my kids laced up their skates and headed onto the rink. The disco ball and DJ were reminiscent of my childhood, and I quickly discovered my kids absolutely loved visiting the skating rink, too. In fact, they wanted to know why I hadn’t taken them before now! My 13-year-old took to it immediately, and while my 6-year-old took some time to get used to it, he was soon skating like a pro.
Here it is a few weeks later, and school is gearing up. Our schedules are busy, but do you know what my kids are asking to do? That’s right. In the midst of our busy schedule, they’re begging for a pressure release at the skating rink. It’s important to let kids relax amidst their new school schedules, and heading to a spot like the Insanity Skate Complex is a great way to do that.
You may not have an Insanity in your area, but here’s a top time saving tip for moms! Download the Kid Friendly Venue app to discover skating rinks in your area. You can also look for movie theaters, miniature golf courses, laser tag rooms, or arcades. With the KFV app, you can search a radius around your town for whichever top spot for families interests you.
With any luck, you’ll find the perfect pressure release spot for your kids to help them as they adjust to their new school schedules. You can also keep these spots in mind for special events like birthday parties or school field days. For example, at Insanity Skate Complex you can book parties, sign up for a monthly membership, and even take skating lessons. They have so much to offer, they’re sure to meet your needs in some way.
Places like Insanity aren’t just for kids who are traditionally schooled, either. In fact, Insanity Skate Complex offers special daily deals for homeschoolers. This means less crowds during the day when young children or homeschoolers are out and about. You don’t want to overlook these types of specials if you have the ability to take advantage of them!
At the end of the day, we working moms just want our kids to be happy and healthy—physically, emotionally, and mentally. If your kid has anxiety about school, getting that pressure release in the midst of the stresses of a new school year can be exactly the medicine they need.
