When documenting my mom’s life story one of the topics she brought up was that she could not stand rock and roll music.
She said all the songs were bad and she just had to put up with it.
It reminded me of the days when we would play loud rock and roll music in the house and at an even louder level outside.
I am sure we as children were driving her to even more dislike of rock and roll music!
When I said to my mom “There are some rock and roll music songs that have a religious tone” she scowled at me saying “no way!”
I said “Yes! There are several of them. Yet let’s just listen to one.”
Please listen to the words and tell me what you think.
I played “Let it Be” by the Beatles and my mom listened to the words in astonishment.
I said “Mom, what did you think of the song and would you say it had a religious tone?”
She smiled and said “I liked it and it was the first rock and roll song I may have ever really listened to the words.”
She agreed it had a religious tone.
Later on while documenting her life story and the distressing divorce of her first child I reminded her that sometimes in life it is better to “Let it Be”.
Life is at moments and times challenging yet if you “Let it Be” you tend to also let emotions go and move on.
It is as the song says “Mother Mary comes to me speaking words of wisdom: Let it be, let it be”.
"And when the broken hearted people
living in the world agree
There will be an answer, let it be.
And when the night is cloudy there is still a light that shines on me
Shine until tomorrow, let it be.
I wake up to the sound of music, Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be”
