As my kids have reached preschool age, it is time for me to put away my phone and engage with my daughters. Albeit, some days, it is running haphazardly after a two and three-year-old, both trying to go in different directions. That is when finding venues like Sensory Seekers of Concord, NH, found on this website’s KidFriendlyVenues app, is a personal life-saver!
Not only is it convenient, but we love the opportunity to support a local small business. Sensory Seekers created this inclusive play gym with a much-needed play space for families with special needs. There are caps on the number of children who can reserve a time slot, which honestly creates a better play experience for everyone! I find it stressful keeping track of a high-energy toddler in a sea of kids and I find the cap on kid numbers means more sipping my coffee and less frantic chasing.
For parents with special needs children, the play gym is subtly designed to help a variety of needs. For example: swings for vestibular input, weight toys for heavy bodywork input, climbing structures for complex motor planning, steam roller slide for deep pressure, and most importantly a compassionate environment.
We explore the space, then my daughters excitedly jump on the colorful swings. They can move around foam blocks and jump into crash pads. I also saw my kids being more creative with play here compared to a typical outdoor playground. I love the swing area. They have large swings you can sit in with your toddler. After climbing through the rope nets, jumping into the crash pad pit, sliding and swinging, we spend some time unwinding in the quiet sensory room.
Sensory Seekers’ quiet room was created with noise reduction insulation and calm lighting to help with overstimulation. They have quiet toys and gentle interactive lights. It is a useful tool when my youngest is getting worn out and grumpier. She is entranced by the glowing lights in the dim room.
Sensory Seekers gets a five star rating on the KidFriendlyVenues app from me! A venue for family fun, especially on a hot, stormy summer day.
