What’s your favorite vacation season—spring, summer, fall, or winter? When it comes to traveling with kids, choosing the right time of year for your family can be tricky. Depending on where you go and when, you might need winter coats or bathing suits, sun hats or toboggans. Finding the best places to visit with kids can also be tricky, which is why we highly recommend downloading the free kidfriendlyvenue KFV app to help you narrow down the activities that are the best fit for you.
One of my family’s favorite places to visit is Orlando, Florida. You might be worried that it’s a bit commercialized—and you wouldn’t necessarily be wrong. But there is so much to do and see in Orlando. Whether you’re looking for quiet and relaxing, adventurous and busy, or somewhere in between, you’re sure to find it there!
Getting to Orlando is easy, no matter how you choose to travel. Flying into one of their airports can often be budget friendly and convenient. You’ll also find driving straight down interstate 75 from the north, or interstate 4 from the south, to be a breeze. If you’re worried about how you’ll get around, Orlando has you covered there, too. Ride share companies are in hefty supply, and you can also rent a car.
Where the weather is concerned, Orlando tends to have great weather almost year-round. While it might get a bit cold in the heart of the winter months, it often warms up at least during the daylight hours. Take note that traveling to Orlando in the heart of summer might leave you all pooled in sweat from the tropical heat!
I’m a summer lover, myself, so traveling to Orlando during the summer months is totally my jam. I make sure to arm myself and my family with moisture wicking clothing, cooling towels, hats, and plenty of sunscreen. If you’re traveling in the winter months, be sure to check the forecast before you leave, and pack a sweatshirt and pair of pants in case of evening temperature drops.
From multiple theme parks to nature exhibits, space flight centers to water parks, dinner shows to night life—Orlando has a lot to offer. And they are all listed in the KFV app, downloadable from this website. Also check out the blogs from our Momstribute.com Moms who wrote further recommendations.
My family has most often visited the theme parks in Orlando Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Resort, and SeaWorld have been our favorites. The nostalgia, adventure, and excitement draw us back time and again.
However, the next time we visit Orlando I’m determined to make more time for its other offerings. For example, did you know.......
You can rent vacation homes within water park communities! How cool is that? The Solterra Resort is one example of a resort that offers vacation homes within its water park, but there are so many more. If water parks are something your family loves, then you’ll want to check them out!
This NASA site is great for those who want to take a look at the history of space flight as well as the current space travel realm. There are even amazing attractions on which guests can get a feel for what the astronauts experience while training for and traveling to space! This is another fantastic option I’m eyeing for our next trip to Orlando.
Operating hours for the Kennedy Space Center go year-round, so it’s a great option even during the cooler winter months. It’s also a fantastic spot for those with any type of disabilities. They have programs for autistic guests, and they welcome service animals. Ticket prices range from $65-89 for most guests, depending on whether you purchase 1- or 2-day tickets, and there are discounts for guests in the military, those who are senior citizens, and kids 5 and under. In fact, kids 5 and under can get in free if parents sign them up for a Junior Space Explorer pass.
Depending on your interests and the age of your traveling kids, you may want to check out the nightlife at places like:
Disney Springs which has Cirque du Soleil and Disney shows at 5:30pm and 8pm, and wheelchair-friendly luxury Splitsville bowling lanes across two floors until 11:30pm.
Universal’s CityWalk is open from 8am to 1am. Evening entertainment for kids includes The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium and Savory Feast Kitchen which can then be followed by an escape into the movies like only Orlando can give! It's interactive escape into your kid's favorite movies.
No matter what the interests of you and your family, if tropical destinations appeal to you then you’re sure to find something amazing to do while in Orlando. And once you’ve visited? Don’t forget to check back in with the KFV app to let other busy working moms know what you thought!
